Question: I want to know why Dish Network charged my credit card for a cancellation fee for service not received? I received Dish in Janauary and since then I have had equipment problems such as receivers not functioning and satellite aquisitioning. I called several times to correct the problem. Finally I did not receive any local channels. I contacted Dish Network and spoke with an account specialist who advised that if you allow techs to come out and reinstall the dishes and you still do not receive coverage you can cancel with no fee. However after the techs came and could not acquire a signal I contacted Dish Network and they said that the cancellation fee is waived and to return the boxes. Sure enough I look at my credit card statement and I was charged a cancellaion fee. I contacted Dish Network and spoke with a woman in the Executive Office who said they can not be responsible for the satellites moving and I would not get my money back. The woman stated it didnt matter that I did not receive local channels. All together I have spent at least an 8 hours with calls to Dish Network. Anyone thinking about Dish should really consider this before subscribing. Once it is installed it is very difficult to cancel without billing issues. I am forced to take Dish to small claims Court, which I have to spend more time and money. However what keeps me motivated is that they will have to seek legal counsel which will cost them well over the cost in dispute. I will represent myself and pay court fees for filing the complaint. They will pay a lawyer or a rep that will make $100-$200/hr to litigate $186.00. Buyer Beware!!

Answer: i also had to pay a cancellation fee, but it was only for 13.00 and some change. but the problem was my signal was lost most of the time and i would have to wait 10 days to 2 weeks this occurred more a few time and had to buy rabbit ears to watch tv. only had 1 1/2 months on contract and had to swithch to cable to have programming, neverless no service, smart aleck person on support call left me no choice. was told to fix it myself if i didn't want to wait. but to charge me for no service. cancellation fee, ridiculess.
